Mum's Date Loaf - submitted by Shirley Preston at the Fringe Festival, 2009

Ingredients

  • 1 cup of chopped dates
  • 1 cup of sugar
  • 1 tablespoon of butter
  • 1 teaspoon of bicarb soda
  • 1 cup of boiling water
  • 1 cup of wholemeal plain  flour

Recipie

  1. Put all dry ingredients into a basin & cover with  boiling water
  2. Mix & let stand for 10 mins
  3. Add wholemeal plain flour
  4. Put into greased loaf tin
  5. Bake for 1/2 - 3/4hour in moderate oven until brown

 We used to have this when we came home from school, thickly spread with butter. YUM! Shirley
